This year, I decided I wanted to participate in The Reading Rush readathon (formerly known as the BookTubeAThon)! It starts TODAY and runs through through July 28th, and you can learn more about the readathon here. I'm not the best with readathons, and usually either forget or taper out in the first few days, but since so many people are doing this one I really wanted to give it a shot! I don't think I've ever read 7 books in a week before so we'll see if I can rise to the occasion! Here is my TBR that I hope to knock out during the week of challenges:
1. Read a book with purple on the cover: Never Have I Ever by Joshilyn Jackson
2. Read a book in the same spot the entire time: Little Girls by Nicholas Aflleje and Sarah DeLaine (I'll be trying to finish this whole graphic novel in our hammock!)
3. Read a book you meant to read last year: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
4. Read an author's first book: Last Ones Left Alive by Sarah Davis-Goff
5. Read a book with a non-human main character: Animal Farm by George Orwell
6. Read a book that has five or more words in the title: The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware
7. Read and watch a book to movie adaptation: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
Bonus: Read 7 books!
Yes, I am aware a few of these books are pretty short. Nothing wrong with setting yourself up for success, right?
Are you participating in The Reading Rush? What books are on your TBR?

Magical Readathon: OWLs Exams
March 26, 2018
I've been looking for a good readathon to participate in, and when I saw someone share this one I knew it would be the perfect one to do. This is hosted by Book Roast over on YouTube, so if you want more information be sure to check out the video below.
Basically, the goal of this readathon is to pass your OWLs just like the students at Hogwarts. There are 12 different subjects to choose from, but to pass your OWLs as acceptable you only need to successfully complete 2 subjects. If you want to overachieve, like Hermione, you can pass 3 to exceed expectations or 5 to pass as outstanding.
The OWLs Exams readathon takes place from April 2 to April 29.
I didn't want to disrupt my TBR too much with this readathon, but I knew I could easily squeeze a few of these in (and still pass higher than acceptable!) with books that were already on my radar. I may try to attempt more if I'm having a good reading month, but I wanted to start with just a few. Here are the subjects I've chosen to sit my OWLs for, and the books I will be reading for them:
- Astronomy (a science fiction book): Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
- Charms (a fantasy book): The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
- Herbology (a book with a nature-related word in the title): The Girl and the Grove by Eric Smith
Here's to passing my OWLs with an exceeds expectations rating! Have you participated in readathons before? Which was your favorite?
January TBR (and 2018 Reading Goal!)
January 2, 2018
Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe it's 2018! In addition to being New Year's Day, yesterday was also my 28th birthday! I wanted to jump right in this year with my January TBR. For the new year, I really want to put a little more focus on backlist books (since I have so many!) than I have been, so you're going to see a lot more of those popping up in reviews and TBRs this year. In 2017 I wanted to read 52 books, one for each week, but I definitely surpassed that. I don't want to overestimate my potential for the year so I'm going to bump up my goal just slightly. This year I'd like to read 60 books, putting me at 5 per month. I also want to make sure that at least 25 of those are backlist books.
Without further ado, here are the books I'm hoping to get to in the first month of 2018:
Without further ado, here are the books I'm hoping to get to in the first month of 2018:
- The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee
- Delirium by Lauren Oliver
- Dreamology by Lucy Keating
- Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco
- Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella
- Mister Tender's Girl by Carter Wilson
This list is mostly backlist reads that I should be able to get through quickly. As always my TBR can change at a moment's notice, but hopefully I'll be better sticking to them this year than I was last year!
Christmas/Holiday TBR
December 6, 2017
I can't believe we're already into December and so close to the end of another year! I love this time of year, because it's so cozy and I feel like the rush of regular daily tasks slows down a bit. It's the perfect time of year to curl up in front of a roaring fire and tackle some good reads. I've complied my TBR for the holiday season and wanted to share it with you guys. While there aren't a ton of Christmas-themed books on here, they're all books I'm very excited about.
- My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories, edited by Stephanie Perkins: YES I KNOW this book came out forever ago and I still haven't gotten around to it. This time I will, I promise!
- No-one Ever Has Sex on Christmas Day by Tracy Bloom: This was described as similar to Love Actually, so as a huge fan of that movie I'm going to give it a go!
- The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor: This was my Book of the Month pick for December. I'm loving the thriller genre right now so I had to jump right into this one.
- Artemis by Andy Weir: This was last month's BOTM pick but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If it's anything like The Martian I'm going to love it.
- A Simplified Life by Emily Ley: As a planner girl, I love anything by Emily Ley. Going into the new year with a more simplified vision might be just what I need!
I'm sure I'll end up reading more than just these, but this is my starting point. I've already started two of these so I'm not worried about completing this list. What is on your TBR list for the holiday season?

October 2017 TBR
October 4, 2017
Halloween season is finally here, which means it's extra important to pick up some spooky reads! This month is interesting, because I'm getting married in 5 days (!!!) and will be on my honeymoon, so I'll have more time than usual to curl up with a book (only this time it will be on the beach instead of on my couch!). Here's what I'm planning to tackle this month:
- Slasher Girls and Monster Boys by April Genevieve Tucholke
- Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender
- The Merciless II by Danielle Vega
- Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalo
- A Midsummer Night's Scream by RL Stine
- Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
- Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker
Do you have any more spooky recommendations for me? I'm down for spooky books all year round of course, but October is just the perfect time!
September 2017 TBR
September 5, 2017
I can't believe it's September already! Where has the year gone?! I have to say, I'm so happy that fall is here! I love everything about the fall: the cooler temps, the festivals, the holidays, and pumpkin everything! Plus this fall, I'm getting married! Only 33 days left until the big day and I'm SO excited! Hopefully with all the last minute tasks, I can still get a lot of reading done this month. Here's my somewhat ambitious TBR list for September:
- Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips
- Gold Dust Woman by Stephen Davis
- Girl Logic by Iliza Shlesinger
- The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan
- Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker
- The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee
- More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
Fingers crossed I get to all these exciting reads this month!
